I am having surgery on my pointer finger of my right hand tomorrow. I have a seriously deteriorated joint, so the plastic surgeon is going to clean up the joint and then fuse it with a rod drilled through the joint from the fingertip. I will have my hand in a cast for approximately 6 weeks--that is the worst part of it. I wonder if I can duct tape a hook to my cast and then keep on hooking. . .
My collection of material pleasures including but not limited to rug hooking -- rugs I love, rugs I'm making, ideas for new rugs -- and other hobbies and passions. I have 7 chickens I adore and love to ride my bike. I am a voracious reader and I enjoy cooking--occasionally! -- Sharlene Washington

Peninsula Rugmakers Guild - Fabric Bowls Program by Kate Smith
What a treat we had at guild today! Kate Smith came down from the Walnut Creek area to share how to make cute little fabric bowls out of clothesline and fabric. What does this have to do with rug making? They are perfect as a scrap bowl, or to store your hooks and scissors.
She brought a pile of inspiration!
And how about a tote? Perfect for carting around everything you need for your hooking project.

Lena's Cat's Paw
I met up with my dear friend and rug hooking mentor, Lena Krinard at the monthly Craft Day at Mt. Olive Church in Milpitas yesterday. She was excited to show off her nearly completed Cat's Paw (an adaptation of a Gene Shepherd design). She is working her way through tacking down the rug binding and will soon have it on it's way to a new home with one of her family members. Lena gives most of her rugs away to her children, sending them off the instant they are done.
Absolutely stunning rug Lena!

Devotional Cover
I ran across this lovely cover for a religious devotional on painted parchment. It was bound by Christian Engelmann, 1715 Germany.
It has some promising elements for a future rug.
